Completed NEA

Dear Moderator,

My name is Kamilla-Zasmin Bilaniva. Welcome to my A Level Media Studies blog. This is a record of the work I have undertaken for the Making Media Non-examination Assessment (NEA) within the OCR H409 GCE A Level course in Media Studies.

I worked independently on Brief 3: Magazine and Online to produce the front covers and contents pages for the first two editions of a film magazine called Reel together with the magazine's accompanying website.

Research and Planning

Further down in my blog you will find evidence of my research and planning for this task.

Magazine Covers and Contents Pages

Magazine first edition cover and contents page

Magazine second edition and contents page

Magazine Website

The link to my website, which was created using Wix, can be found at the link below.

The magazine consists of a homepage and a single linked page. This page can be accessed by clicking on 'Store'

Photos used on website

These pictures are taken, and enhanced, by me. Taken from my recent trip to Italy.

NEA Task 21 (Planning) : Photography Planning

 PHOTOGRAPHY PLANNING

Models
: Me and my friend Dylan. This means I have two different social groups represented - men and women.
Location: Either picture can be done outside or inside. Then, depending on which one i prefer, I will edit the image with a different background by going and taking a picture of the outside if need be.
Costume: I would need to wear make up to match the theme of Joker.
Dylan will probably be an extreme close up shot, I want the focus to be on his eyes. Dylan has blue eyes, similar to one of the characters from Dune, i'm planning to enhance that feature to be similar to the one in the film.
Props: I don't think I will be using any props in the photos. I want to keep it quite simple.
Body Language: My body language will be very open, as that's the kind of body language usually represented by the characters in the joker films. However, Dylan's body language does not particularly matter, as it will be mostly his face.
Lighting: preferably high-key lighting as if I need to edit any of the images, it can be easily done.

I will be taking the photos of Dylan, but for photographs of me I will have my trusted friend do it.

NEA Task 20 (Planning) : Website Homepage and Linked Page

 Website header plan:
-  Media Convergence: Include THE REEL MAG logo I made in photoshop which is also used for the magazine cover, as well as the reel shape I've included in the content page. Some headings may have the same font as the magazine masthead.
- Must include hyperlinks at the header, this is not only allows the viewer to navigate the website easier as everything they need is right at the top of the page, but also is something done by almost every website such as Film Stories, Sight and Sound and Little White Lies.
- For the hyperlinks, I will most likely include News, Reviews, Features, Store, Magazine and Subscriptions.
- Links to socials, such as Facebook and Twitter

    DRAFT:

Homepage Plan
- Limited colour. Too many colours can present the magazine as childish. Possibly just black, red and white. This is the same colour scheme used for the contents page.
- The linked page would most likely be the subscriptions page or the store page, where the audience can buy the magazine or subscribe for monthly deliveries of it.
- I think I will include audio-visual content on the homepage as a feature. Most likely, it will be a feature from the most recent issue of the magazine

NEA Task 18 (Planning) : Mock Up of Cover 1 and 2

- simple background, inside, special edition puff
- make logo bigger in the actual thing
- mid shot, direct gaze, model is large on the page and the actor is easy to notice. As a first cover, this will catch the attention of those who are aware of who it is.
- Female model, one social group
-Outside, different from first cover, mid-upper body shot so it wasn't similar to the first edition
- Open body language to show confidence, make the model easy to see
- Male model, second social group represented
